Methodology

Our Scoring Methodology: How We Calculate the Trust Score

At propfirmreviews.org, we believe traders deserve an uncompromised, unfiltered view of the proprietary trading industry. To eliminate personal bias and prevent commercial relationships from skewing our rankings, we evaluate every platform using a strict, mathematical framework called the Trust Score.

Every prop firm featured in our database is graded on a 100-point scale across five core pillars. We do not guess, and we do not take marketing copy at face value. We audit terms of service, track payment execution data, and test simulated trading environments to calculate the raw numbers.

The 5 Pillars of Our Scoring Framework

[ Rule Fairness ] ------ 25%
[ Payout Reliability ] -- 25%
[ Pricing Fairness ] ---- 15%
[ Platform Quality ] ---- 15%
[ Trust Signals ] ------- 20%
=============================
TOTAL TRUST SCORE: 100%

Rule Fairness & Transparency (25 Points)

A firm can have the lowest prices in the world, but if their rules are mathematically designed to cause failure, the evaluation is a trap. We heavily penalize predatory fine print and reward clear, static limits.

  • Drawdown Mechanics (10 pts): We award maximum points to firms utilizing static or End-of-Day (EOD) drawdowns. We aggressively penalize trailing drawdowns that calculate risk tick-by-tick based on open, floating profits.

  • Consistency Requirements (10 pts): We review profit caps (e.g., rules stating no single trading day can account for more than 30% or 40% of your total target). Lower consistency friction or completely open parameters score highest.

  • Hidden Restrictions (5 pts): We audit the rulebook for ambiguous clauses regarding news trading windows, weekend holding penalties, or arbitrary “gambling style” disqualifications.

Payout Reliability & Infrastructure (25 Points)

Passing an evaluation is only half the battle; getting paid is what matters. We evaluate how seamlessly a firm transfers real capital rewards to its traders.

  • Processor Transparency (15 pts): Firms that route payouts through established, regulated third-party contractor networks (such as Deel or Rise) receive top marks because they enforce legal compliance, offer multiple withdrawal methods, and protect trader capital security.

  • Historical Payout Velocity (10 pts): We track the average time elapsed from an approved withdrawal request to capital receipt. Firms with a consistent history of processing payouts within 24 to 48 hours score perfectly here.

Trust Signals & Operational Longevity (20 Points)

The prop firm space is notoriously volatile. We reward stability and transparency over flash-in-the-pan marketing hype or aggressive social media campaigns.

  • Time in Market (10 pts): Firms that have successfully operated, adapted to industry-wide regulatory shifts, and sustained continuous payouts for more than 3 years form our benchmark. Brand-new startups are heavily discounted until they prove longevity.

  • Regulatory Alignment & Asset Structure (5 pts): We evaluate the operational model—favoring regulated futures prop firms routing executions through major exchanges (like the CME) over completely opaque offshore CFD entities.

  • Legal Clarity (5 pts): We review the transparency of the parent corporate entity, physical office presence, and the fairness of the legal trader contract.

Pricing & Fee Fairness (15 Points)

We look at the total economic burden placed on the trader from day one to their very first payout.

  • Cost-per-Capital Ratio (5 pts): We analyze the raw upfront cost relative to the actual buying power and maximum drawdown limit provided.

  • Hidden Fees (5 pts): We check for mandatory “activation fees” post-evaluation, hidden platform data charges, or steep reset costs that turn a seemingly cheap account into an expensive trap.

  • Refund Policy (5 pts): Top points are awarded to firms providing a 100% refundable registration fee upon a trader’s first successful payout.

Technical Platform Quality & Execution (15 Points)

A trader’s strategy is only as good as the slippage, uptime, and reliability of the broker connection.

  • Slippage & Spreads (5 pts): We measure execution lag and simulated spread markups during both low-volatility Asian sessions and high-volume NY/London crossovers.

  • Platform Diversity (5 pts): Higher points are given to firms supporting industry-standard, high-reliability software (like TradingView, NinjaTrader, MT5, or cTrader) rather than locked-down, buggy in-house platforms.

  • Dashboard Analytics (5 pts): We evaluate the trader dashboard for real-time risk tracking, transparent drawdown metrics, and clean UI execution.

Trust Score Breakdown: What the Ratings Mean

Once the points across all five dimensions are tallied, the prop firm is assigned a final Tier rating on our Master Ledger:

Score Range Tier Classification Editorial Recommendation
90 – 100 Elite Trust Tier Exceptional rules, reliable payouts, highly recommended for all traders.
75 – 89 Verified Stable Sound mechanics and history; a very viable option with minor rule friction.
60 – 74 Cautionary / Average High costs or restrictive rules present. Proceed strictly if it fits a specific strategy.
Below 60 High Risk / Flagged Severely penalized for predatory rules, hidden fees, or systemic payout delays.

Continuous Audit Cycle

The prop trading landscape changes overnight. A firm that is trader-friendly today can quietly update its Terms and Conditions tomorrow. To combat this, our team executes a rigid maintenance loop:

  • Weekly Data Syncs: Evaluation costs, profit split metrics, and promo codes are updated every 7 days.

  • Monthly Clause Audits: We manually pull and scan the fine print of major providers every single month to catch stealth changes to consistency rules or hidden inactivity fees.

Found a Mismatch?

We hold ourselves to absolute accuracy, but we welcome community scrutiny. If you notice a rule change before we do, or if your personal payout experience with a firm contradicts our current data, let us know immediately. We investigate every community flag to keep our ledger perfectly accurate.
